Everyone likes a good party and the year of the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Games have given the UK plenty of opportunity for celebration. Thanks particularly to the Olympics, the UK sees a new set of buildings and public spaces, but how will they fare after the party is over?
The legacy of celebration is explored through images, photographs, drawings and models that present events from the past alongside a preview of our own 2012 legacy projects, including the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, due to open in July 2013. From the Eiffel Tower to the O2 Dome, After the Party not only charts the creation of some of the World’s most extraordinary structures, but also considers how such places are sustained once the party is over, including those that have had a lasting urban impact, transforming entire cities, alongside others that provide more cautionary tales of unexpected consequences, sometimes ending in failure and disaster.
